Henrik Lundqvist played 15 seasons in the National Hockey League. He played 23 games against the Boston Bruins in Boston. And yet he has no idea where the state of Massachusetts resides on a map of the United States of America.
TNT has done a masterful job of creating a fun envrionment for their NHL studio show that mirrors their famous NBA counterparts at Inside the NBA. Usually it’s Paul Bissonnette drawing the headlines for his outlandish behavior, comedic timing, or strong takes. But this time it was Hank’s turn in the spotlight to provide some levity.
The studio crew was having some fun trying to find birthplaces of 4 Nations stars. So when Henrik Lundqvist was asked about Chris Kreider, a former teammate with the New York Rangers from Boxford, Massachusetts, he knew it was “in the Boston area.”
He then amazingly ended up near Bluefield, Virginia.
Henrik Lundqvist is from Sweden, so it’s not like you can expect him to ace United States geography. But as host Liam McHugh pointed out, this is a man that lives in New York City. He has been in America as a player and commentator for 20 years now. And Boston is a place he’s literally been to dozens of times! It’s not like asking him to locate Butte, Wyoming or Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. So we really can’t give him that much of an excuse on this one.
Although now that we’re thinking about it, a good old fashioned geography bee between the NHL and NBA teams on TNT could be better entertainment than what we saw during the NBA All-Star Game.
