“Aaron Rodgers Tuesdays” have become a staple segment on The Pat McAfee Show dating back to the veteran quarterback’s time in Green Bay.
But now in Pittsburgh, the future of “Aaron Rodgers Tuesdays” is in question. McAfee took his eponymous show to Latrobe, Pennsylvania for Pittsburgh Steelers training camp on Wednesday and asked the quarterback whether he’ll be making his weekly appearances on the program.
“Will you be joining us on Tuesdays or no? Did they tell you you can’t?” McAfee asked Rodgers.
“We’ll see, yeah, we’ll see. You’re going to have to talk to [Steelers communications director] Burt [Lauten] over there,” a grinning Rodgers said.
Later in the show, McAfee pressed Steelers GM Omar Khan about Rodgers’ Tuesday availability this season, and he similarly deferred to Lauten.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have historically run a tight ship when it comes to public relations. Just last week, head coach Mike Tomlin discussed his apprehension to shows like Hard Knocks during an interview with NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt. Considering that Rodgers’ interviews on The Pat McAfee Show have regularly made headlines, the type with which the Steelers generally try to avoid, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he team’s communications department put the kibosh on his weekly appearances.
It’s hard to imagine Rodgers, who has proven to be a bit of a glutton for publicity, willingly taking himself out of the McAfee rotation unless the team insisted on it. For now, like Rodgers said, it seems we’ll just have to wait and see whether that’s actually the case.
