With Adrian Wojnarowski likely enjoying the ability to get some uninterrupted sleep, Ian Rapoport doesn’t seem envious of the now retired ESPN NBA insider.
Rapoport recently joined SiriusXM Radio host Damon Amendolara on Watch D.A. Live. During the interview, Amendolara asked Rapoport whether he was fielding texts Saturday night from NFL executives fawning over the Georgia-Alabama game, to which the NFL Network insider admitted to receiving a few.
“The main problem was I was trying to go to sleep. And I couldn’t go to sleep because the game was too often,” Rapoport said, encouraging Amendolara to ask whether the 44-year-old NFL insider envies Wojnarowski’s bold decision to retire from media.
“I love my job. I value sleep, I value scoops more,” Rapoport answered. “So I always check the phone, you just never know what could be on there. That happens. I got the text on Micah Parsons having a high ankle sprain and being out a couple of weeks, I can’t even tell you what time in the morning because I woke up to it. That’s the good stuff.”
Appearing on the Awful Announcing Podcast earlier this year, Rapoport detailed the stress of not having his phone with him, sharing that he once got “so mad” after missing a scoop to change a diaper. Valuing scoops more than changing diapers is one thing, but valuing them more than sleep is real commitment to your craft.
Rapoport also told Awful Announcing he thinks he would be capable of making the switch from the NFL to become an NBA insider, although he doesn’t appear to be on ESPN’s shortlist of potential replacements for Wojnarowski. Shams Charania and Jeff Passan are the more likely candidates, two insiders who similarly appear to value scoops more than sleep.
