If Stephen A. Smith did like a social media video featuring Nick Fuentes, the ESPN personality is denying that he did it intently.
Tuesday night, far-right social media account AF Post shared a screenshot of Smith being among those who clicked the “like” button on an Instagram video from Fuentes. In the clip, Fuentes, a far-right political commentator, accuses the United States government of being under Israeli influence. Wednesday morning, Smith denied clicking the “like” button intently, claiming he doesn’t know who Fuentes or the video is.
“I do not know who this is or what that video is. If it was ‘liked’ it was unintentional,” Smith wrote while quote-tweeting AF Post’s screenshot which has over one million views.
Everyone has accidentally liked a social media post at some point. And who knows how much Smith even uses his Instagram account, as he does have a social media team to handle most of his posts.
But whether it was intentional, accidental or someone else hit the like button for him, being associated with supporting Fuentes in any way still isn’t a great look for the possible Democratic candidate for president in 2028. Fuentes isn’t just a far-right political pundit, he’s an avowed white supremacist and neo-Nazi.
And this is why Smith probably won’t run for president in 2028 — well, there are a lot of reasons why Smith won’t run for president in 2028, like the pay cut and his minimal qualifications. But for someone who attempts to keep his personal life private, that’s going to be an impossible task as a presidential candidate.
This is just an accidental “liked” social media post. But if Smith really does run for president, he’s going to have a cast of people digging through his past to find and expose any possible controversy linked to his name.
