While rapper AP Dhillon scored eight points in Friday night’s NBA Celebrity All-Star Game, his most memorable moment might have come when he was on the bench.
In the second quarter, Dhillon was interviewed by announcers Mark Jones, Stephanie White and Richard Jefferson. He spoke about his admirable goal of helping grow the game in his native India, saying, “I want to take every little chance to do that.” Dhillon then addressed preconceived notions that people — including fellow Indians — might have about Indian players. In doing so, he momentarily forgot where he was.
“Like, my own people, they were like, ‘Does this guy even know how to dribble? Is he gonna double dribble?’ So I’m here to show, like ‘Yeah, we f***’,” Dhillon said.
“Oh, my bad,” he added, quickly catching himself. “We can dribble. My bad. My bad.”
The unedited curse drew the laughter of all three announcers.
“That was a double dribble,” Jones joked.
“Shaq just texted me. He said ‘You don’t have to apologize,” Jefferson quipped, referencing Shaquille O’Neal’s similar — and far more intentional — moment on Thursday night’s Inside the NBA on TNT.
“OK, amazing,” Dhillin replied.
As most of us can understand, it happens sometimes.
