Ryen Russillo has had a very active Friday, cementing his future in the sports media world. After there were reports he was set to sign a new deal to remain at ESPN, Russillo not only announced he would be returning to ESPN, but also that he will be hosting a football podcast with The Ringer.
Russillo announced his future on Twitter Friday morning. In addition to his new Ringer duties and continuing role with ESPN, Russillo announced that he is writing a pilot for an unknown future show.
The Ringer welcomed this news, by going all NWO with it and having Russillo be the “third man” to join The Ringer (NWO). It’s cool, but it’s a bit of an insult to the memory of Randy Savage to have Skip Bayless’ face over his.
Russillo went on The Bill Simmons Podcast to explain his new podcast, which will be called Dual Threat. It’ll be a college football and NFL podcast, premiering August 29 and running for the duration of football season. After the football season is over, Russillo will move over to talk NBA with Simmons on The BS Podcast.
This seems like the best of both worlds. Ryen Russillo remains at ESPN, plus he can take on a new role with The Ringer. And considering how ESPN and Bill Simmons ended their relationship, maybe Russillo can be the conduit for them to someday patch things up. Not saying that’s going to happen anytime soon, but never say never.
