Turner Sports has made an…interesting decision regarding next Tuesday’s Barcelona-Tottenham Hotspur Champions League match.
Naturally, they’re airing the match on TNT in the 3 PM window, with Spurs needing to match (or better) Inter Milan’s result against PSV Eindhoven to advance into the Round of 16. The decision to air that match won’t sit well with Liverpool supporters, whose home tilt with Napoli will be shuffled to B/R Live despite them needing a win to advance out of their group.
Where things get weird (or interesting, or unique, or however you want to describe it) is when you look at the broadcasters for the match: Stu Holden and Steve Nash, live from Barcelona. They’ll also be on-site in Valencia on Wednesday for their match with Manchester United, but won’t be providing commentary.
Here’s the note from Turner’s release.
Special for Matchday 6 across B/R Live and TNT, commentators Stuart Holden and Steve Nash will head to Spain for on-site coverage on Tuesday-Wednesday, Dec. 11-12. The pair will have the live call of FC Barcelona vs. Tottenham Hotspur, along with contributing pre and post-match coverage on Tuesday from Camp Nou. The following day, Holden and Nash will visit Mestalla Stadium to provide pre, half and post-match coverage for Valencia vs. Manchester United.
And a video clip from last week, released on Twitter.

For those that wanted Turner’s Champions League coverage to be different….well, it’s definitely different! In fact, it’s so different that one of the matches actually being aired during the final matchweek is being called by a pair of analysts, one of which is an unabashed fan and a former basketball player.
Just remember, folks – all of the Champions League games are airing in Spanish on Univision and its portfolio of networks in case you don’t want to shell out the couple of bucks for one of Turner’s streams of a game or if you just have no desire to listen to Nash and Holden on the call of this one.
