The worst storyline to come out of last week’s Super Bowl was the death of local Telemundo reporter Adan Manzano, who was in New Orleans to cover the Kansas City Chiefs.
Shortly after news of Manzano’s death spread, reports surfaced that police has made an arrest in connection with his passing. Now, tributes continue to come in from across the sports world.
On Friday, MLS side Sporting KC set up a tribute for Manzano at its media day. The young reporter was “heavily involved” in covering the team, per a report from KCTV in Kansas City. Sporting KC setup a spot with his media credential and a vase of flowers in his honor.
“He had a calmness to him always whenever he asked questions,” said Sporting KC manager Peter Vermes. “He was always thoughtful in those situations. I always had a really good rapport with him.”
Ely Martinez, the creative services director for Kansas City’s Telemundo station, told NBC News earlier this week that Manzano’s death was like “losing [his] little brother.”
The cause of Manzano’s death is still being investigated by local officials. But clearly, the young reporter made a positive impression on those that knew him.
