It’s no secret ESPN’s relationship with the NHL and its fans is a little, well, icy compared to the other major sports. The NHL did lead the MNF postgame edition of SportsCenter last night though, which tells you how bad Panthers-Eagles was. But ESPN’s coverage of the NHL is nominal at best as a non-rightsholder and largely consists of Barry Melrose and his glorious mullet.
That’s why this exchange caught our eye this afternoon. ESPN was trying to lobby the Blue Jackets Twitter account to get them to take part in some manufactured fan thing of theirs (they’re tweeting pretty much every NHL team with the same carbon copy prompt), and the CBJ had the perfect response.
It’s not the first time the Jackets have needled the folks in Bristol, either…
Well played Columbus, well played.
