#FSUTwitter hasn’t exactly covered itself in glory as the Florida State football program has seen nefarious detail after nefarious detail emerge over the fall regarding the Florida State football program and the university. They’ve pushed back against what they see as a conspiracy in the media to bring down Jameis Winston and the Noles, even going as far as to threaten a boycott against College GameDay.
But the latest alleged action of Noles fans would be a step far beyond that.
Today the New York Times posted another investigation into suspicious collaboration between the university and the Tallahassee Police Department, this time on hit and run accidents. That follows another Times piece regarding the apparent woebegone handling of the Jameis Winston case.
Then in the afternoon, suddenly, the Times’ story became marked as spam on Twitter, blocking people from reading it. One NYT writer suggested it was the mass spamming of Florida State fans.

Despite the public allegation, SB Nation says they haven’t seen evidence of a dedicated campaign from #FSUTwitter. That doesn’t mean fans didn’t resort to the tactic on their own. Even the fact that this idea is being floated out there shows you all you need to know about the current reputation of #FSUTwitter. Seeing a major story from the New York Times of all places being marked as spam is certainly suspicious and it doesn’t take much work to connect some very relevant dots.
UPDATE: SB Nation got a comment from Twitter that the article mistakenly was marked as spam and the social media outlet took responsibility for the error.
