How would you like to be staring at that face in your line of work?
Paul Fixter isn’t just the head coach of the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League, he’s also a stickler for proper journalism training.
After a 7-2 loss to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyounds, Fixter wasn’t in a jovial mood for postgame interviews. After grinding and gnashing his teeth through a minute of questioning, a reporter told Fixter that his team played hard.
Frustrated at the lack of a real question, tempers flared to the point that the reporter sarcastically raised his voice to Fixter and the coach replied with a straight-forward “F— you.”

Coaches explode at the media all the time, but rarely will you see a reporter get that defensive and feisty with a coach during an interview session. At least cooler heads eventually prevailed.
But you know what? Good for Paul Fixter. Too many reporters are trying to get by without asking real questions, expecting coaches to do their jobs for them. Note to any prospective journalists out there – “talk about” is not asking a question. Sometimes important lessons like this have to be learned the hard way.
