The 2015 MLB season will begin on Sunday night, April 5th, and ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball crew will be at Wrigley Field for the Cardinals and Cubs.
This is the first time that Wrigley Field will play host to the opening night game.

It’s an interesting choice, but one that makes sense – you’ve got a long-standing rivalry between two pre-expansion era clubs, a renovated Wrigley Field, and a new era in Chicago with Joe Maddon as manager.
And looking at the other matchups on the schedule, this was probably the best choice for MLB and ESPN. The World Champion Giants open the season in Arizona. The AL champion Royals host the White Sox, who are terrible. The only matchups featuring two teams that finished above .500 facing off are Blue Jays-Yankees and Angels-Mariners. So why not go with the Cardinals and Cubs in a renovated Wrigley?
