This is a remarkable piece of footage from a sports show.

Inside the NBA dedicated the first ten minutes of their show last night to a discussion on Ferguson, Eric Garner and the overall issues facing our society at the moment.  The discussion was spawned by Charles Barkley’s outspokenness on Ferguson and Kenny Smith’s open letter response.

Turner Sports gave Smith and Barkley a platform to continue the discussion on their airwaves and no matter where you stand, it’s certainly important to keep the conversation moving forward.  And for those people who will yell and scream about “sticking to sports” – know that real progress will never happen if these conversations stop and are always relegated to the shadows.  Barkley and Smith were composed and thoughtful in their comments, Shaquille O’Neal spoke from his personal experience, and Ernie Johnson asked great questions.

This is a lot better and more meaningful than the B-movie horror show you’ll see playing around the clock on cable news.  It proves once again the caliber of Inside the NBA… not just as a sports show, but as a show for all topics.  Hopefully everyone that works in cable news is watching this and realizing that maybe ideological blowhards and charlatans aren’t as beneficial as real people having real conversations like real human beings in the hopes of moving us forward.
