Unrivaled Basketball announced Saturday afternoon that the scheduled matchup between Laces BC and Vinyl BC for Saturday night had been canceled due to player health and safety.
The league released a statement three hours before the scheduled tip-off, which would have been televised on TruTV.
“To prioritize player health and safety, Unrivaled will be canceling tonight’s matchup between Laces BC and Vinyl BC,” read the statement. “The game between Mist BC and Lunar Owls BC will now tip off in the 6 p.m. ET window at Wayfair Arena, airing on truTV and Max.”
Laces BC, whose roster includes Kayla McBride, Tiffany Hayes, and Alyssa Thomas, last played on February 1, losing 83-69 to Rose BC. Thomas and Natisha Hiedeman did not play due to injuries, and Jackie Young was also dealing with an injury.
Vinyl BC, whose roster includes Dearica Hamby and Aliyah Boston, last played on February 3, losing 85-68 to Lunar Owls.
No specific details were provided about the cancellation, though social media speculated that the injuries mentioned above have made it difficult for the Laces to field an active roster. The team announced it had signed free-agent guard Kiki Jefferson a few hours earlier on Saturday.
The nascent 3-on-3 women’s basketball league plays all its games at the Wayfair Arena in Miami, Florida.
