This will be the first full season of Yahoo’s contract with the NFL that will allow them to live stream in-market and primetime NFL games. Along with the new deal, Yahoo is going to be doing more NFL and sports themed programming.
Sports Business Daily reports that Yahoo will launch additional programming along with live streaming NFL games. As of now, there are four shows on Yahoo’s docket including a show called Mostly Football with Martellus Bennett. Mostly Football is about football but it’ll also be a culture and lifestyle type show that is in association with Complex Media.
Other shows include Fantasy Football Live, which has been a Yahoo mainstay and is back for a 13th year. The Rush “is a daily, short-form morning show that focuses on the day’s must-see sports moments.” And The Spin “is a more analysis-based effort leaning on Yahoo Sports’ in-house reporting resources.”
Yahoo had been dipping their toes into the water of NFL streaming for a few years. They first started streaming one of the London games in 2015. This current deal started last season when Yahoo streamed the playoffs, reporting that it got them an additional one million downloads of their app.
